I purchase my supplies from Sally's Beauty Supply. I am wondering what items I would need to purchase to get started, and if the application is comparable to doing acrylics.

You would be better to ask a friend who is a hairdresser, if she would pick up some product for you at cost from a pro distributor. Not that Sallys is bad, but the acrylics and gels I have found there have not been the best.

If you already do your own tips, gels are similar, but once you get decent at application, there is less filing required, it saves a lot of time.

Also, gels and acrylics don't always go well on each other. If some nails start separating, don't blame the gel, or yourself. You just might have to soak off the acrylic and start over with gels. If this happens, it might be a good idea to let you natural nail plate grow out some, in case you have overfiled.

If you are going to Sally's anyway, I would ask them. I find that they are usually very helpful and know what they are talking about. Maybe even call before you go.
