I think that it is more widespread among the priests and the males that they molest are more likely to report them than females reporting the nuns. You also have to separate pedophilia from being gay. One does not automatically mean the other. A lot of pedophiles molest boys because they were molested themselves and use what they do as a subconscious way of getting back at whoever molested them.

actually there have been several cases of lesbian nuns abusing girls but they somehow never make the news. as for gay priests, the catholic church has a policy that if a man has been a celibate gay for a year or two he can apply for priesthood, I think its a poor policy, we need a policy like the army has, if you turn up to be gay You're outta here.

Actually these priests are not gay, they are pedophiles. My best friend was systematically abused when she was a little girl by a priest. Pedophiles can target either gender but since pedophilia is deviant and non consensual (children cannot ever give informed consent), their sexuality isn't pertinent.

Careful - we hear about priests abusing boys, not GAY priests. Child abuse and molestation isn't about sexual orientation, it's about power and access - much like rape is, or sex within a prison environment. Priests have access to these youth because of the environment they're placed in, plus the strict lives priests are expected to lead. The majority (95%) of child abusers are HETEROSEXUAL. Not gay men. Straight men.

We don't hear about lesbian nuns abusing girls because they generally don't have access to them, and we're not likely to think of nuns as sexual predators. Plus in examining modes of abuse, women are far less likely to abuse someone sexually on the whole. They don't have to be lesbians - again, it's not about orientation - lesbian & gay people aren't attracted to children.

You are confusing the crime of pedophilia with inborn sexual orientation. Why are you asking about pedophilia in the LGBT section, since it is known that nearly all molesters are STRAIGHT men? Are you trying to imply something? Shame on you.

You cannot choose nor change your natural sexual orientation. This is different from deciding what sexual (or, in the case of pedophilia and rape, power-based) behavior you will pursue.
