Get your passport renewed.
Do this by concentrating on the smallest object in your line of sight or in your imagination. Without moving, turn the object over in your mind and discover how amazingly complex and beautiful this tiny ordinary object is. In your mind, try to focus in on each molecule to see how they are linked and how the structure of the molecule reminds you of something else like the structure of a tree.
Do these things to take your mind off of you. Stop thinking about yourself and who you are or think you are or want to be. Focus totally on that which is not you.
Zen is the absence of self.

First of all, I feel bad for you because you have desire for it, which is the first cause of suffering. Ironically, it is difficult to accept that sometimes we need to suffer in order to move past the desire. I suggest tibetan bowls and breath. They will help you focus. You also should try to think less about finding Zen and more about finding peace at the present moment. It takes work and practice just like anything else. Sometimes our lives are so busy that even only five minutes of meditation is the only moment of Zen we can possibly experience in an entire day! Zen isn't just about happiness either, it's more about peace within oneself and finding yourself at 'home' wherever you go.

Where Are you getting this from?
Your meditation sounds like a meditation for peace, calm , tranquillity...that's great , but it isn't what Zen is about.
Are you studying with a Zen Buddhist teacher?
I have studied Zen Buddhist meditation and it isn't only meditation I practised Zen Buddhism for a number of years.
You need a proper teacher....
peace.
...and no, Zen is not the absence of self! It isn't a lot of things I hear it stereotyped as.
Get proper teachers.

If you try too hard, you're probably going to lose sight of what Zen is really about. Don't force it. Instead of stressing when you feel yourself losing it, relax and let your mind ease back into that state.

Practice, practice, practice. Just like anything else that's a skill, you can't get around that pesky chore...
Don't be too frustrated if you can't hold the zen state for as long as you want...it'll come with time.

Don't get into a zen state. It's fleeting.
Life is real and must be dealt with head on. Eastern mysticism is escapism.
Live and be human! Accept suffering and whatever else life brings you! God will sustain you. If you have God you lack nothing.

Stop going there.What you're feeling isn't happiness.It's contentment.I always felt buddhists and Schopenhaurians were people preoccupied with death...on a blind whim.It's a denial of life.

You desire is the obstacle. Because you want this, there is a distinction when you achieve it. If you empty yourself of this desire, then you will also empty yourself of the distinction. When you never enter and never leave such a state, then you will have what you seek.
