Is it true that he will be a starting pitcher this season? Who will be the closer for Boston? How do you think this is progressing?

Yes - Papelbon is slated for the rotation for two reasons:

1) Why not get 200 elite innings, versus only 65-70 as a closer?
2) The Boston medical people shut Papelbon down at the end of last season due to shoulder tightness, which was blamed by in-consistant work (as a closer), by moving into the rotation he will be able to have a much more consistant (albeit larger) workload and should be able to avoid injury and make a Cy Young run in my humble opinion.

The Red Sox closer is another story all together

Front-Runners: Brendan Donnelly, Julian Tavarez, Mike Timlin

Dark Horses: Craig Hansen (this is the guy that gets the job, IMO), Manny Delcarmen, Bryan Corey (8 IP this spring, 1 ER), Kyle Snyder (Big kid - throws hard, a K/IP this spring so far and out of options).

Deep Sleeper: Bryce Cox - 2nd year player drafted last year out of Rice University - Nasty, Nasty stuff - Fastball in the mid to upper 90's and a deadly slider. Could be ready to join the Sox by June.

YES!!! Papelbon is a starter, count on pinero or timlin to be the closer!!! I have a feeling Papelbon will go back and assume the closer role and Lester will be the 5th Starting pitcher so just stand by with that!!!

It's true and right now Pineiro is the closer. It's hard to validate moving Papelbon out of the closer's role if Pineiro is your best option for closer. I think Papelbon will be a very good starter but they will not be automatic, like they were last year, at the end of games.

Yes it is true. The closer will be Timlin, Piniero or Donnaley-or Theo will trade for Chad Cordero from Washington. I think Pap will have a pretty good year. Say 14 Wins, 3.90 ERA and about 150 K's-I hope so- I've got him on two fantasy teams
