I'm from Alabama and I need some ideas for what to plant in windowboxes. The problem is they only get part sun so most things like wave petunas etc. don't really have enough sun

I have window boxes & little afternoon sun. Last year I used ivy plants, & shade loving annuals. Petunias, pansies, begonias worked well. Go to your lowe's, wal mart or nursery & see what you like That works in partial sun. There are quite a few. Another tip is to leave the plants in their pots & just place the pots in your box. You don't need dirt, if you get enough, you can't see the pots, & if a plant does die, you can just pull out that pot without disturbing the others. They'll last all season like this.

Might consider: 1. Lavender
2. Viola family of plants
3. Coleus, if temp is 55 or up.
4. Rosemary
5. Aloe plant

I have window boxes in part sun and found that impatients love that location. I've also used ivy geraniums for my boxes that get only morning sun and they literally cascade over the boxes.

marigolds are the best, they don't need much sun and they can last in any heat.

however they do need alot of watering.

also phlox is great for windows but it can get thick as it is a spreading flower.
