I'm pretty sure affect is a verb and effect is a noun, so affect is correct.

If you say, "Wars affect everybody," you are saying that everyone is affected by wars; in some way, there is an affect, a result, caused by war, that touches everyone.

If you say, "Wars effect everybody," you are saying that everyone is brought into being by wars--which is not true.

Affect is a verb, effect is a noun.
You could probably remember it as A for Affect and A for Action (hence a verb)

Use effect when you mean bring about or brought about, cause or caused

Use the verb affect when you mean to influence rather than to cause
