I recently tested positive for HPV but my doctor pretty much flat out told me that they don't know what causes it. If that is the case then how can they say it is an STD!?! They think that men are "silent" carriers well, if they don't test for it then how do we know that we are getting it from men? I'd be curious to know how many if anyone who is not sexually active has been tested positive for this virus. I assuming only women who are sexually active are testing positive for it so they automatically assume that it is an STD!?!

a lot of people have hpv and do not even know it. there are hundreds of strands of it. one strand being warts. if you get a wart on your hand, leg, etc, that is a strand of hpv. its nothing to do with being unlcean or dirty. there are just different strands and doctors dont even understand the whole thing either. its very complicated. and its not hard to catch. the easiest way to catch it is by sex with someone who has it. one may have the virus but never ever show any signs of it. so its very hard to detect, especially if there are no symptoms. but with a female, its easy to detect by your yearly pap smear test. it will show up in that.

You need to get a new Dr. They do test men for HPV, they just do not exhibit symptoms. Most women will not either, it is a very common virus to carry and most women will never know they have it. I am not a medical doctor and do not know how they establish how virus are created, but it is passed through bodily fluids that you catch through sexual intercourse....that's what makes it an std.

Sadly, my grandmother's cervical cancer progressed to uterine cancer and she lost her uterus 40 years ago. Please take care of yourself, practice safe sex and see your gynecologist regularly!

The kind of HPV that causes genital warts is an STD.
I got my HPV from sex from an ex-boyfriend who showed no signs of having any kind of STD nor genital warts. So yes, most of the men who have it don't show any symptoms.
Nobody who has HPV just had it appear out of nowhere! Tell that to all of the women who have HPV and have wart outbreaks. Your doctor is lying to you. They do know.
Get yourself tested again by another doctor.

I found a bump and I am not sexually active. I haven't seen my doctor yet to confirm it but it looks like it is genital HPV. There is also HPV on hands, arms and even throat although genital ones are said to be transmitted sexually.

I´m 100% sure that it´s an STD because everyone I know of who has it got it by having unprotected sex with their boyfriend. None of the boyfriends ever had any symptoms, or if they did they either didn´t realize it or lied about it.
