who has worked in a public library and was it a good job to have.?

I have worked in a public library for the last 10 years. it's run by the county and we all get fairly low wages, mostly minimum wage with 3% increase once a year. I like working there, but it's not just sitting and reading. I can only read at lunch because there's so much to do. even then sometimes I have to answer the phone. think about working in any store where you have to wait on the public. they can get pretty crabby at times. they try to get away with breaking rules and then say we're rude when we enforce the rules. they swear they brought back the item that's now overdue and then go home and find it, but they get mad at us because we won't let them do whatever they want, check out whatever item. we also have to work late some nights and on Saturdays because that's when the library is open. most of us have one week day off and Sundays, when the library is closed. as I said, I like working at the library because I get first chance at reading the books, but I keep busy almost the whole time I'm there. I won't try to list all my jobs here because that would take up too much room. if you think you want to work in a library, volunteer for a while to see what it's like.

I worked in the warehouse of a county library. We unloaded trucks, sorted the material to go to the specific branch it needed to get back to, then reloaded the trucks. I loved it, but I was 19, single and it was summertime. I would not want to be doing it 21 years later

it seems to be the easiest job in the world and they get paid heaps, well thats what i've been told-- most of the time i see them just sitting behind the desk, online or reading...(not unusual i know, being that their in a library ) and all day all they have to do is issue books out or return the books... compared to a sales assistant job its like heaven....
