i can hear the fuel pump working but no gas is getting to the engine

are you sure you are getting spark?.... and did you check the fuel pump fuse?

A gasoline internal combustion engine needs three things to run, they are, gas, air and spark. Check the air cleaner and electrical for spark to the engine.
