A friend asked me if I wanted a breast pump as a baby shower gift, but I don't know exactly what it is, or what it does.....HELP!!! I know, I'm sooo naive. :)

its cool gadget where u dont have to breast feed ur baby in public or at all. just put the suction cup on ur breast and the bottle on the other end and the breast milk will go straight into the bottle andu can give it to ur baby.

When you are breastfeeding, you can use a breast pump to get milk out of your breasts (sort of like what they use to get milk out of cows) so that you can have someone else feed (while you go to work, get out of the house etc). There are different ones. There are hand pump ones for if you are only going to be doing a small amount of pumping all the way up to an electric one that has double cups so that you can pump both breasts at once (eg if you need a full days supply for when you go to work). You can freeze your milk as well.

It sucks up the milk in your boobs and goes into a cup so the baby doesn't have to suck on your breasts.
