Another way to do it is power washing them. That's the way my husband does, it and it's one less thing for me to do!
Then you just ket them air dry in the sun. You could wash them in the tub, or scrub them with something, this way is quicker and very effective.
They come out looking very new.

Depends on material, etc. I have PVC frame furniture with cushions. I use a mixture of bleach and water. Allow to sit in sun for a few minutes and then rinse with water throughly.

A REALLY easy way is to buy a foaming bathroom cleaner, wet down the cushions, spray them w/ the foam, let them sit a bit, and hose off. ( it desolves mildew stains )

soak them in the tub with some laundry detergent scrub an rinse well then hang. Or if you have a pool put them in right after you put the chlorine in let the just soak for a bit then rinse with the hose and hang.

The least harmful and most efficient thing I have found is Mean Green, used with a toilet brush.

depending on the color and material you could use bleach and water or vinegar and water but not bleach and vinegar togther you would cause a chemical reaction.
