I have been bleeding for about 15 days heavily. I am going to the doctor soon, and I know I can take birth control for a little bit to stop the bleeding. The problem is the birth control pills expired in January of this year. Can I still take them? I don't need them to prevent pregnancy, just to stop this heavy blood flow. Please help!!!! Anything you know would be helpful!!!!

If you are not going to be sexually active it will be fine to take them, they will not hurt you. You can try to call the doctors office to try to get in sooner tell them its an emergency, usually they have a nurse on call that can accept patients early.

Usually, when you take an expired medication like birth control pills, it will still work but it won't be that affective. The potency won't be at 100%.

call a local pharmacist... they can advise you what to do about your pills. I have taken expired pills before...not b.c. but a muscle relaxer I was worried about it being expired too, so I called a pharmacy and they helped. good luck.

They would be fine, they are just considered expired because that is when they won't guarentee effectiveness after that date, but a few months expired won't hurt you.
