it depends. good for those who don't need it, you know? if you feel you need a pledge to keep your virginity, then you are most likely to break that pledge anyway. you see? the pledge should be more of a virginity pride statement, not a promise.

I think they're creepy if you're under the age of 18. During your teen years you barely know your own body or your own sexuality--how can you decide what you want if you don't know who you are yet? I think by 18 you're an adult and if you want to declare your intention to stay a virgin unless you are married, then that's good for you. But a lot of those purity pledges come with a lot of pressure from adults. I'm not in favor of teenagers having sex, but creating this whole contract thing for them at 13 is a bit much, especially since there should be an open dialog about sex. There's this sense that once you sign these contracts, there's no need to think about sex until you're married, so there's no open discussion about sex any more.

Virginity pledges are like new years resolutions. I'm not going to keep them, so why bother?
I'm under 18 and I'm a virgin, but if I meet someone I happen to care about quite a bit (not likely) then whatever happens will happen. No half-arsed pledge is going to effect that. I'd still use protection, but that goes without saying.

Just a sign of the times. Some hundreds of years ago it was normal to be having sex in early teens. Life spans were shorter since they didn't have the medicines we do now. Nowadays we just live more sheltered lives on average. Because we can afford to I guess. Some people think it's good. I think it's bad. I also think it's why pedophiles exist in such large quantities. Denying reality, even at an early age, is unhealthy.

Depends on the age of the person. Below 20 it is probably a good idea. Above 20, I think it's naive.

I think it's sad how grown-ups try to evade their responsibility.
Rather than explaining about safe sex, they feel emberrassed talking about it.
They're embarressed about everything to do with sex.
So... rather talk to their kids about it, they make them vowe never to do 'it'.
Much easier that way!
