Running off the DVD ROM, Does it matter which color cable goes in the dvd and which in the HD if the HD is set to Primary?

Select the NTFS quick format option (as opposed to standard) ..... that has worked for some people.

ok here little knowledge lets see if it will help you out. the Cabling alway goes strip towards the power on IDE type drive and most other drives. As far as the drive you just bought I would take it back to the store tell them it is defective and they should replace it with a working drive.

it should not but try another drive since its win xp yous hould be ok try a regular cd rom and it sounds like there are bad sectors in your hardrive. sry. usualy means bad hardrive.
