The word you are looking for is 'empiricist'.
An empiricist generally only believes what can be directly observed with his senses. Conclusions you draw in your head are completely out. Their motto would probably be, "If you can't see it, it doesn't happen."
A rationalist is actually the OPPOSITE of an empiricist - he believes that logic and reason are more important than observation in deducing the nature of things. Science is founded on epirical roots (the whole point of experiments) but tends to involve just as much non-empirical theory and philosophy as it does actual measurement (it might be fair to say that it's a blend of empiricism AND rationalism).
