i want to locate and old girl friend but i dont know where she lives. How can i go about locating her?

If her family still lives in the area you could start there. If the break up was not bad and you tell her family that you are looking to get in contact with her, they may be willing to wither give you her contact information or get in contact for you and give your info to her.
Also, if you went to the same high school and graduated together you could contact one of your class officers and see if they have the contact info for her. They are usually the ones that plan the reunions.
