Yes you can. I never lost my mucous plug before going into labor.
Engagement ( dropping of the baby ) may occur for first-time moms days or even weeks before you actually give birth. For women who have had other children, engagement may not occur until you are in labor.

your baby can drop down as early as 1 month before you go into labor, infact that is what happens. Your baby is getting prepared for the ride out.
As far as not losing the mucus plug and going into labor. I would have to say no, you lose your plug before labor. I would only have to think you cant go into labor without losing it.

I only lost bits && pieces of my mucous plug with all 3 of my children. I don't think I have ever lost ALL of it.
My babies were all in head down position for quite some time, Before they were born.
I guess, it all just depends on when baby wants to make his/her entrance to the world. ;]

You lose your mucous plug in the early stages of labor. It could've been weeks before you actually felt labor pains. Most likely it got flushed down the toilet & you never knew it.

That is a difficult question. I am guessing that you can start having contractions, but I think that you have to loose your mucus plug before you actually have the baby. I was induced and I didn't loose my mucus plug because of it. There are women who are contracting weeks before they give birth to their child and that would give it time to release the mucus plug. I hope this helps.
