What are the pro's and cons of a Tattoo? It doesn't matter how old you are or the kind of tattoo we're talking about.

By the way I'm 30 and don't have a tattoo yet.

ok listen to the facts instead of opinion

1) they are safe as long as the place you go is reputable and has a health inspection posted... you can also go check it out first before you go make sure they use little cups for each person ie. clean ink and they have a sterilizer or have clean needles in unopened packages

2) they can be covered up i have several and i work as a professional I OWN MY COMPANY
i wear long skirt, boot, slack, jackets, blouses, dark stockings
and no one knows i even have any one day in a store i had a client come to me and say OMG i never knew you had ink i was wearing a tank top and it showed my shoulders off

3) yes they are permanent but you will always remember the day your gf took you and held your hand on the first one or the day you had your son on your lap sleeping while they did his name on your shoulder there is a story behind every tatt and anyone who has one can tell you every story of every tatt

4) yes we buy clothes and glasses and purses and they go in and out of fashion but ...... you look at tatts as a part of you a part of your personality so it is not a fad or will be out in a month because YOU ARE YOU and it is just a part of your personality

5) if you are very nervous you can call up a tatt place who is good and ask for a dry run... call them up tell them you are a virgin they will know you don't have any ask them if you can come in and see if you can TOLERATE the pain each part of the body has a different level of tolerance.. they will not use ink just get cha with the needle to see well to see if you are too wooosy to get one my gf almost passed out with the "pain" lol she is too wooosy they may charge you a buck or 2 for the needle use but at least they won't get started and you woos out with dots on you

6) remember you will bleed and it will hurt not badly but on my shoulder blade he kept hitting a nerve and i was numb for a few days make sure if you get one you keep it clean and covered for the first few hrs and then air dry it and keep it lotion up they will tell you the best kind of lotion to use and make sure you have triple antibacterial cream that works too and it keeps it clean

7) have fun at it they are addictive and once you get one you want more make the first one small that way if you don't like it or its not really for you you can forget about it some of mine are on my back and legs and i even forget i have them sometimes HOPE THIS HELPED gl have fun

Pros:
1/ Look at as many examples of work, by as many different tattoo artist's as you can. It will help to give you some idea of what you yourself are looking for, & also, you'll get to see which tattooist's skills are the best, in your opinion.

2/ Take the time to choose a image that's right for you. Following the crowd (i.e. friends all having a similar tat' during a night out.) is not always great the next morning..

3/ Enjoy your tattoo. It's an extension of your personality.

Cons:
1/ When going for your tattoo, don't drink alcohol/take drugs, etc, beforehand. A reputable artist will not tattoo anyone they consider to be under the influence.

2/There's a very minor risk of infection, so be sure to check-out the general appearance of your chosen tattooists studio. Most will have certificates of hygiene & competence on public view.
Follow closely the after-care advice given to you by the tattooist. This minimises risk of infection, & ensures your tat' will heal properly.

3/ Remember: A tattoo is for life.

Hope this helps..
:)

I guess it would depend on the type of tattoo and the location. I never understood the whole point of getting a tattoo that can't be seen by others, unless it is a personal tattoo like the names of your children of some other loved ones tattooed over your heart. I think when it comes to tattoos, less is better.

I'm older than you are & just got my first last summer. I have 2 now, with at least 2 more planned. Pros...it's permanent artwork and a way of self-expression; mine are beautiful and feminine. Cons...can't really think of any, but I did place mine in areas not commonly seen while at work (I work in an office).

I think waiting until your 'older' is a pro too...you are less apt to change your mind after the fact. Hope this helped!

I am thirty four and do not have a tattoo either.
I would like one but I am much to indecisive to get one. Too permanent for me and what if the person tattooing me sneezed and made a mistake and for the rest of my life i have a crooked flower or something. I also wonder where to put it and if I am too old or have not the right body type.

Well given your scenario I do not believe there are many cons to getting a tattoo. The pro would be, you happy about your art.

I am the same age and I do not have a tattoo but I work in a professional setting so I think if you work in that type of setting you should not get one or take care where you get if and even I would like to get one but I just never have.

The pro is a great form of self expression..just don't get the same butterfly on your back as all the other girls who think they are sexy

The con it's there for life so you can't change your mind..if you get one make sure it is somewhere you can hide it if you want to and it isn't something you will regret haveing to explain to your kids.

Tattoos are great. I think that as a woman you should get a small one. There is nothing worse than seeing a woman with arms covered in ink. The con would be that its there for the rest of your life, so make sure you like it a lot.

Pros- You can create some sense of individuality, express your creativity, and make yourself more unique.

Con- Many jobs won't hire you if you have a tattoo, so you have to make sure it's nowhere visible, you might get tired of it, if you get it in a place like on your hip/stomach or breast and you gain weight or get pregnant it will stretch, you have to get it retouched every few years, and once you get older it just doesn't look good anymore

I'm 19, and I don't have any tattoos, nor do I want them.
