Yes it happens - there are even cases of parents who were both white having twins, one white and one black.

The reason this can happen is because of genetics (I've simplified this next bit):-

Basically when an egg is fertilised one set of genes from the man combines with another set from the woman. This means that for most characteristics we have two genetic instructions. In the case of skin colour there will be one for white skin and one for black skin. Obviously the baby can't have both and genes are programmed to be either dominant or recessive - in other words when there is one of each the dominant one is the one that is expressed. The genes for skin colour are actually more complicated but sticking with the basics...

In this way an apparently white mother, for example, can carry one copy of the "white" gene and a recessive copy of the "black" gene. If the father (who may also appear white) has a similar mix of genes then the baby can end up with two white genes (and appears white), two black genes (and appears black) or one of each (and may appear black, white or have a "mixed race" appearance).

The gene for black skin colour can be carried down several generations and remain "hidden" by being dominated by the white gene, only to be expressed much later on.

This is the case with a lady who works in my firm - her great grandfather was black but all the following generations appeared completely white. However her daughter has a little boy who appears completely black because the black gene she was carrying has combined with another from the father (who also appears white) and been expressed as black skin appearance.

Recent studies of genetics have shown that an incredibly high number of people who think they're white actually carry "black" genes (if I remember correctly, somewhere between 30 - 40% in the USA and UK). This mainly stems back to the days of slavery when it was common practice for white slave owners to rape or take as a mistress just about any young black female that took their fancy. Naturally any resulting children ended up carrying a mix of black and white genes which have been passed down the generations.

Yes there are cases where white people have black kids or black people have white kids. There are some people with one black parent and one white parent who have European features and are light enough to past for white. They eventual blend in with white society and marry another white person and have kids who look white. This goes on for year and then a few generations down the line a child in this family winds up with dark skin and maybe even African related features. No one knows why because the interracial ethnic of the mixed ancestor was kept a secret.

Then there are cases where mixed couples have twins and one comes out looking black and the other comes out looking white. It all comes down to the genes that are past down from parents to their children.

Yes it can happen. It has to do with your genes & your family history. If there was a black person in your family then anyone born from them and their children's children carry that chromosome where their pigmentation is darker than white people. You can go to genetic counseling where they can tell you if you have a chance of having a colored baby and or many other things.

Yes, it happens. Yet, it is rare. Without getting scientific. Basically there is white in the family. Usually on both sides and sometimes that gene can become dominant.
