Lundquist or Brodeur? (Does Brodeur have any talent or is it all the defense?) Please bring proofs to state your point.

I'm a Rangers fan and I'd say Lundquist shows sparks of brilliance but Brodeur is still the better goalie -- for now. Look at Brodeur's record, even when the Devils weren't such a great team. I know the whole Devils system is about defense, the so-called trap and all that, but I've seen Brodeur just stone the best players in the league again and again.

On the other hand, his record in shootouts stinks, so go figure.

Lundqvist is great but Brodeur is simply the best because when he finishes his career he will be the leader in most goaltending categories and we call Gretzky the great one because he holds the most scoring records so too will Brodeur be known as the best goaltender ever because he will hold the most goaltending feats and records. Brodeur has had to play on a team all his career that although was always defensively sound also barely scored which meant every save he made meant alot more to the Devils as a team then any other goaltender and the number of one goal games he won attest to that fact. In addition without Brodeur in many years the devils would probably not even make the playoffs whereas the Rangers goaltending has never been their biggest problem. Brodeur has also been overlooked for the Vezina until recently because people said its easier for him because the devils are a defensive team but look at the Rangers they have some great offensive stars who can bail out Lundqvist when he gets in trouble like Jagr, Straka, Nylander, Shanahan, Prucha and last year they had Sykora as well. Lundqvist is the best of the young goaltenders for sure and might well be the best after Brodeur if the rangers could learn to play defense in fron of him I mean Lundqvist GAA is so good he allows two or fewer goals in so many games despite the fact that the rangers break down and allow so many breakaways and shorthanded goals. I will tell you that Lundqvist will probably be the best shooutout goalies ever.

Obviously your personal bias is clouding your judgement. I, for one, don't like the Devils either... but how can you say that Lundqvist is as good as Brodeur? It is no contest. Brodeur is the best goalie in the league right now.

Want proof? How about save percentage? That is based on the amount of goals allowed per shot, so the amount of shots your team gives up is irrelevant. In fact, if your defense sucks, it is probable (if your goalie is good) that he would have a HIGHER save percentage potentially, because he faces more shots. Not the case in this case, however. Brodeur has a .924 save percentage. Lundqvist has a .912. Hmm...

Want more proof? How about longevity? Playoff performances? Awards? League recognition? Games played? Besides, have you seen the Devils' defense since Stevens and Niedermayer left? The defense is NOT making Brodeur look good. It is the other way around.

So where is YOUR proof that Lundqvist is better?

Brodeur.

The guy is a beast. He's a workhorse for a team that really doesn't even need a backup. Clemensen has started a mere 3 of the 70 games! Amazing! That alone has nothing to do with the team speaks volumes on Brodeur's work ethic and stamina. Throw in all that he's accomplished as far as wins, shutouts, Cups, Vezinas and he's arguably one of the best goalies EVER!

If you saw Brodeur last night, you'd get the point. When the trap breaks down, he's there to cover up for the mistake.

How do the Devils continue to succeed with their flippin' trap? The offense is no more potent and they have a weaker defense with Niedermayer and Stevens gone so the answer is Martin Brodeur, pure and simple.

Ultimately, he's as athletic and technically sound as any goalie in the league, but it's his consistency that separates him from everyone else.

Brodeur hands down. People USED to say it was the D. The Devils don't have superstar D men anymore and Brodeur is as good as ever (maybe even better).

The rule changes mean they can't trap as effectively anymore either, which was another reason all those Brodeur haters used to bring him down.

What has Lundqvist done for this to be even considered?

im a rangers fan but brodeur has the records and experience like over 100 career shutouts. I feel that lundqvist will pass him and eventually be a better goalie than he ever was. but for now brodeur is better

Lundqvist is the better goalie... when the trap fails, brodeur fails as well. He gets help from the devils defense, and is highly over rated. When the devils lost to the capitals this season, there was three break away goals... the trap failed, and so did brodeur.
Lets Go Rangers!!!

You have got to be kidding.

You want a comparison between some cat with 2 whole seasons and one with 14 seasons.

You could put Martin on any team and he would be the MVP.
He is money and it has little to do with the system that the Devil's use. Get back to us in a decade and if your precious Lundquist is still in the NHL with a .910 or better save percentage, than we can talk.

You drunk?

Brodeur is hands down better.
The Devils probably would have not won the cup(s) without him in net. He comes up huge when he has to. He can create odd man rushes the way he plays and controls the puck. 6 years of 40+ wins, unheard of. I believe any other goalie probably couldn't match that if they played for the Devils. The goalie is your best penalty killer to. With a couple of saves and passes to wingers, he changes the game in a heart beat. The Devils do not have a high powered scoring attack, so he has to be even that much better day in, day out!
