Word query. How can you clear all the rouge tab and margin settings scattered through a document.?

If I scan something and open it as word doccument the margins and tabs are often all over the place. I can't work out how to clear them in one go and apply the defailt tabs and margins to the entire doccument. There must be an easier way then correcting each individualy

When I try blocking the whole text out hoping to alter all the tabs at once, the bar at the top showing the margins etc. disappears.

Highlight the entire document and then reset the margins and tabs.
