I have Vista as a second operating system on my computer. I really liked the new graphic shiny stuff, but this reduce the performance of your machine, it really needs a powerful computer!
If you ask me why I wont use Vista as my first operating system I will tell you why:
1-It slows my machine even that I have a powerful one.
2- some softwares didn't work in it like Adobe reader 8, which is a bad sign that other programs might not work either.
3- Vista needs longer time to start and to shut down than XP.
4- I don't need the HIGH level of security that Vista has, may be if am using my computer as a server I would think about it, anyway, any anti virus would do the job.
5- You don't need to install drivers, Vista will do it. But it didn't recognize my new HP printer, which doesn't have a Vista CD to install its driver, so you might need to go check the web for drivers that vista doesn't support.
The things I liked about Vista is the new Aero look and the Chess game :D
In my opinion it doesn't deserve that high price.

i've got heard too many thoughts from Vista proprietors to choose it myself. My computing device is 5 years old and that i'm crossing my arms it is going to proceed to maintain going. a chum tried to place in his video games on his new device and that they does not paintings with Vista. people have mentioned their exterior units do no longer paintings. I besides think of it is yet another ME (which I loathed) and actually does not pay for it. XP after ME replaced into like nighttime and day. a working laptop or laptop that did no longer throw blue displays of loss of life on a daily foundation and can desire to be restarted 2 or three times an afternoon. I quite have unquestionably no desire to handle something like that nor could problem if my modern units and utility will paintings with it. I heavily do no longer even comprehend why they even made Vista. XP replaced into high quality. The least they might do isn't launch utility before they get all the "bugs" out and then assume each and every person to virtually could reinstall their entire device to replace to a provider %. (aka SP2 for XP which I nevertheless don't have for that reason).

well in my opinion it is not worth it because it requests t latest technologies ( latest graphic card, mother board...) and even if you have all of this it is still better to install xp, because it will run much better then vista. And if you care about the design you can get a vista transformation pack ie7, office 2007 and media player 11 beta, and it would be just like vista.

I just bought a new HP and Vista was installed. The salesperson said it was easier then Windows XP ......I don't think the salesperson has ever used Vista. Salesperson said it was similar to APPLE. I never used an Apple. In Windows I could go to Explore and find any program I wanted. I cannot in Vista. If everyone is changing over to it I guess we will all have to learn (I don't know this). If I had my preference...I CHOOSE WINDOWS XP, 2000 or 2002 etc

In my opinion (and even CNET's...a leader in computing websites), Vista sucks. I would wait like a year and then just buy a new computer that has Vista built in...or better yet, buy a Mac and then you can have both windows and mac in one amazing computer.
And if you don't want to buy a new computer you can always do some slight hardware upgrades and purchase Vista at a later date after the bugs have been fixed and the price has gone down.
Honestly though, Vista is just a really crappy copy of Mac OS X.
Don't take my word for it: http://www.osweekly.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2300&Itemid=449
If you go to CNET.com (a leader in computing websites) they tell you exactly why Vista sucks...and exactly why you should not waste your money on it! Check here for the top 5 reasons not to buy Vista:http://www.cnettv.com/9710-1_53-26158.html?tag=vid
I know that you didn't ask about Macs, but just in case you are interested read on...if not, then just skip this section. Macs seriously are the future in computing. I just got my first one and I've never been so amazing with a computer in my life. It never has ANY problems whatsoever. Plus if I ever need to use Windows software, I have partitioned my harddrive so that I can run either Mac OS X or Windows. It really is nifty...you should look into it. Windows runs faster on my Mac then it does on any other computer I've ever owned (and I've had several amazing PCs in my day...yet they truly just don't compare with Mac). Keep in mind, you can still run Windows, even Vista, on these computers!
If you do still decide to get Vista make sure that you do your research before buying. Vista Ultimate is by far the best, but has a hefty price tag at almost $400. You can check out the differences in specifications here: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2068721,00.asp
you can also check here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3672_7-6687907-1.html?tag=compare
-------------
To check if your computer can handle Vista...
Go here: http://www.cnet.com/4520-33_1-6671810-1.html
and click "Can you run it?"
It will collect your computer hardware specs and tell you.

It depends on your computer . If you plan to get vista you better know if your computer can handle it . If it doesn't you 'll will probably have to get more memory like 1GB of it and it cost from $50 to $200 and a new video card which cost around the same but if it does handle the program you'll like the entertainment features.
