CONGRATS!!!!! It could be prelabor, but it is not labor until it is on a regular timed schedule. Be patient... you could prob. go any day now. (I know w/ my first my pre-labor pains only lasted for a couple of hours, however a friend of mine had bad cramps and back pains for a few days.)

It could be, but it could also be Braxton Hicks Contractions, which are kind of like practice contractions. If they come and go, time them between the time one ends and the time that one starts. Also, when your cervix dilates, you will feel cramping. I went 3 weeks being 3 centimeters dilated, so don't get too scared. If it gets to the point where you can't stand it any more, then i would probably go to a doctor!

If the pain becomes fairly regular or you actually have to stop to work your way through it, then call your doc. You don't want to run to the hospital then be sent home. Real labor contractions begin about 15-20 minutes apart, and feel like weak menstrual cramps. They are felt mostly in your back and move around to the front, BH's are felt mostly as a tightening in your front. If they get longer, stronger, and closer together, it's time to call doc!!!

I would say yes; or even the real thing (you're 38 weeks!). Get yourself ready to go to the hospital. Watch for other signs, i.e. discharge of the mucus plug, water breaking (it's not always a gush). How about calling your doctor? That would be much wiser than asking the Yahoo community at this point.

labor pains feel just like period cramps...i wish someone would have told me this sooner haha. Um I think you are probably having braxton hicks or practice contractions. drink alot of water adn lay on your left side. when you get dehydrated it can cause contractions that are not labor. if the "contractions" are not regualr or like 5 minutes apart stay home. its not labor. they want you to go in when you cant talk through the contraction...when i went in my contractions made me half over or drop to the ground haha...but i didnt deliver my son for 36 hours after that. good luck, hell i hope you are in labor b/c the baby is full term adn you can get it outta there earlier than planned AND have your little one!!! at least I wanted my baby as soon as it was safe haha1 Good Luck with delivery!!! BREATHE!! thats my advise!

No, I just think that it is because your cfaring a baby. It has a habbit of putting a strain on your body.
It would be much same as carrying a basket of washing around all the time. It would make you ache.
Not to worry, it will be over in a few days or weeks.

Yes, it could be your body preparing for the times to come, However cramps is a tricky thing to really diagnose because they vary from person to person, it would probably be wise to call your OBGYN and tell them your symptoms and get a professional opinion. My wife had them around that time and it was perfectly normal but it never hurts to check.

definitely could be the beginning stages. just relax as much as possible drink plenty of fluids and eat as much as you can because if you are choosing an epidural and you get hungry after the epidural has been done then you won't be allowed to eat! (that's what happened to me! it wasn't fun and luckily the labor went quickly from there! lol) best of luck!!
