A junior is the second. If you want to name a child michael after his father, then you can use Michael junior or Michael II. If your child's father is Michael Jr. then your child would be Michael III, not the second like a lot of people think. You could really use Jr. or II, but it's usually customary to use Jr., unless the name is after someone other than the father, as stated in a previous answer. A junior must have the same first, middle, and last names as the father or other person he is being named after.

I think the second should be used for royalty or if you KNOW that he will pass the name onto his son. My hubby is the second and we didn't carry if farther. I think the second is pretty lame. That is totally my own opinion. I just know that for us NOT to use the third and name our son the exact same was a huge family issue. Sorry, just because I married a second didn't mean I liked the name. Go with Junior... it is easier. And boy is it easier on tax papers and stuff. Can't tell you how many times things have been edited to try to make it Jr. instead of II. Hope this helps!

Technically you could used either one. But traditionally, Jr. is used when a child has the exact same name as his father. If the child has the exact same name as someone other than his father, he would be a II. If a Jr. has a child, and gives him the exact same name, that would make his child a III.

Traditionally, the same 1st & middle name of father is a Jr. just 1st name of fahter is II. Or if he has same 1st & middle name of either grandfathr he is II. Also traditionally, if the father & grandfather have same name baby is III only if grandfather is living at time baby is born. My Dad grnd father brother are John J. Sr JR III & nephew IV. Can be confusing but you do as u want too.

I always thought you use Jr. if the baby is named after their dad (my dad was a Jr.) and the third child with given the same name would be III, changing the Jr. to II. (How confusing is that?????) But my daughter just had a baby and didn't want her son to be a "Jr." so they put "II" after his name. No one told her she couldn't so I guess it is the parents choice to put Jr. or II.

If you have a son and want to give him your exact name, then you give him Jr. For example, you are John Greg Doe. Your son would be John Greg Doe, Jr. There are two cases when you can use II: when you are naming your child after someone else in the family, but not after you. Example: Your father's name is Robert John Doe. You would name your son, Robert John Doe II or, if your son, Jr., wanted to name his son the exact same name, then you would be John Greg Doe, your son would be John Greg Doe, Jr, and your grandson would be John Greg Doe II.
At least, this is how I understand it.

If the childs name is the same as his dad he's a JR. If he has the same first name but a different middle name he is the second.

say your husband's/the father's name is Joseph Michael. Your child's name would be Joseph Michael Jr. If your child grows up and has a son who also is named Joseph Michael, then your grandson would be Joseph Michael III and your son wold become Joseph Michael II instead of Joseph Michael Jr.

If you husband is Mr So and So then your child will be Mr So and So Jr if you choose the same name as him. If you husband is Mr So and So Jr then your child will be Mr So and So II ( the second). And so on.....

you use the II or the III when all 3 of the names are the same.. As in my husband... his name and his father's name is Russell Radcliffe Gillan... therefore my husband is a II
... however if he had the name Russell Timothy Gillan, he would be Junior, because the first and last are the same, but not the middle....
