I really want to go to medical school. I signed up for some pre-med prerequisites my first semester at college, but got very low grades for them (I got a C- in biology). My GPA's so far have been 3.22, 4.8, and 2.67. I am now studying Health Information Management. I know I can do a lot better at my science courses during the summer because I can fully concentrate on them instead instead of 5 courses at once, and I usually get A's and B's for summer classes. If I worked extra hard and got good grades from now on (and take my science classes in the summer), do I still have a chance of getting into a medical school?

I had a typo on one of the GPA's. I meant to write 3.8, not 4.8

your best bet is to look up admission requirements for medical schools so you have an idea of what the schools are requiring and looking for in a candidate. grades are a major consideration but other factors like mcat scores, honors, extracurricular activites, prior health care or volunteer experience also play a role. to be honest with you, medical school requires a lot of dedication and persistence. its a big jump from college work. if you can, follow a medical student around for a day and see for yourself before you make this committment. talk to as many doctors as you can so you get an idea of what your getting yourself into. then, if you think you can handle it and want to continue, then go for it. Good luck! as for grades, ten yrs ago, i had a 3.9 gpa, mcat scores of 34, volunteered at a hospital for 3 yrs, and other extracurricular activites and wasnt accepted anywhere. i worked for a few yrs, reapplied and then was accepted. up to now, its been a long and slow struggle. Becoming a doctor is like running a marathon, its long, painful, mentally and physically exhausting. at the end, it will be up to you to decide if it was all worth it. good luck!

Bad grades doesn't mean you will not get into medical school. You just need to work really hard and get those GPAs WAY up for the next 2 years. They would rather have someone who has been improving their GPA over the years than someone starting out w/ a high GPA and gradually decreasing. It is possible. Make sure to do well on the MCAT and have great LORs and leadership/extracurricular experience.

It is getting more difficult to get into Medical Schools in the us. The competition is fierce. There is always the possibility of you going to a foreign Medical School and then getting a transfer to an American School. Your grades have to come up dramatically. Good Luck

Possibly. However, I'm a little confused as to how you got a 4.8 for one semester.

yes you can, but it will be harder to get accepted and you may need to work harder to impress the college
