A navel piercing is considered a "surface piercing". That is, the two holes of the piercing are essentially in the same plane. As such, there is more pressure from the taught skin to push it away from your body over a long period of time. This process is called migration.
Also, navels can take a long time to heal because they are often irritated by clothing. Try to wear loose-fitting tops for a while. Or simply show off that new jewelry with a bare midriff.
I have known several girls who used a sea-salt soak for 15 minutes twice a day. Get a short cup and put in a 1/2 spoonful of sea salt, and fill with warm water. Bend over and pull the cup up to your navel. Then, hold it there for a few minutes. You can sit, stand, walk, etc. Just keep the cup in place.
Also, be sure to wash with mild soap and water. These days they say don't use antibacterial soap... But I healed all my piercings just fine using it. Wash the piercing in the shower, and try to move the jewelry in the piercing a little bit to make sure that you are removing an "crusties". (Yuk. I know.)
I think in most cases I am familiar with it took about 6 weeks to heal completely using the above regimen. If you get it done soon it will likely be healed in plenty of time for summer. But get it done by a professional piercer! Not at a clothing shop in the mall!
There are lots of good resources online about piercing. The best is probably bme.freeq.com

â¥It shouldn't take very long to heal if you don't mess with it. The hole will get to the point where you can't put the ring bake in (at least not easily) within the matter of weeks. To help with the scarring, use vitamin E oil or something such as mederma. â¥

That depends on how you take care of it.....follow what the shop tells you to do, keep it clean and dont touch it......I can tell you that mine took about 6 months (or maybe a little longer) to fully heal....

Mine didnt take long to heal, but I am sure it varies from person to person. Just keep it clean, any infection will cause it to heal much slower. I have had mine for over 10 years now.
