Well let's see... It probably has something to do with the fact that little isolated towns were experimented on to see how people would handle the news and they all went STARK RAVING MAD! I heard there was a scientist who dealt with radio who was going to send a signal to attract a UFO, and when one came he ran away screaming in terror.
It seems the best we can do is play movies like ET, Starman, Forgotten, and Star Trek VI. HOWEVER, if you mosey on over to Japan, their government is totally open about it, there's even museums about it there, where they put all the evidence they've got on display (at least the stuff that's not classified).
It must be very dangerous stuff, because even the Blue Book Report, which denoted why the public should not be informed if aliens were found to exist, is around 80% blacked out if you view the public version.
You want your head to spin? Get a book called The Philadelphia Experiment. It happened right near me in Montauk Point, NY (which is now a public campground btw). It has details, schematics - all kinds of things that could get you into trouble if you had the time, knowledge, and resources - which I don't, but invite me over if you get a prototype up and running.
How can you confuse an alien space craft for a weather balloon? And then most people today just don't believe that aliens are real? WHY? - because it's just too much. People have enough problems trying to find their perfect spouse and keep their jobs without having to worry about monsters against which we have no defense coming to suck out our organs through our anuses.
And you'd think the Bible would make SOME mention of it. (Although I heard someone say something about "going to visit other lands" - but that was an advertisement for the book of Mormon, and I'm not sure how reliable that is, but supposedly that line is somewhere in the Bible proper - but I don't care enough to look).
Even I don't believe in aliens, I'd just have to see it to be able to wrap my head around a concept like that.
But look at the FACE ON MARS - it's in the NY TIMES back in the 60s somewhere. And the pyramids on Mars - which look very Aztec to me.
Anyhow, if you have more questions, write me, but I think I've given you more than enough data to review to warrant getting 10 points. Jolan True.

Let's assume that UFOs are real.
What reason would any govt. have in admitting that they have had contact with UFOs. There would be no benefit and people would really freak out. Especially if we had to admit that we have no defense against their technology.
On top of that, the religious groups would be in for a major upheaval as people question religion at a deep and universal level.
No, there is no need to upset people in this way.

It "the government" claimed that extraterrestrial beings in alien craft's have been vacationing Earth, it might very much harm our clinical literacy, plenty as flying saucer lore does in recent times, yet extra so.

Because they love to be secretive! Or they think they if they tell the public, the public will go insane with fright! For example: When the old 50's (i think 50') radio show 'War of the Worlds' aired, people actually started killing themselves because they thought the plot line was really happening. They thought it was news. They thought this because radios arent television, they cant see it. But yeah, it would drive people insane.

Because the knowledge we could gain from them, some of which is in the Vatican library, will mean less profits for large corporations. (the interruption of existing energy)

I find it very telling that many pertinent questions go unanswered while questions like this receive so many responses.
