Mine are abusive in more ways than one. I can't talk to them, can't tell them any secrets or anything because they'll use it against me. They always stab me in the back and betray me etc. They make me sick to my stomach.

There are some folks that are happy with their family and they had healthy relationships and got it right and that is a great thing, because they can pass it on to their kids and show the rest of us how it should be done.

And, there' are many folks that don't really like their family, but think that they are supposed to or something is wrong with them, so they continue to live close and go to gatherings and get sick and take the abuse. It never made sense to me, I moved out of state and even went out of country every chance I got. At some point, you have to figure out - at 20,30,40, even 50 - that you are in fact, never going to win the approval/respect/love from those people, and even if you did, it would not suddenly make you a better person. Why put yourself through that??

If you had friends that treated you like that, you'd drop them in a heartbeat, right? So why endure all that when you don't have to. There's that saying that you can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. I think that shows a limited imagination, and our group has chosen our family and we call it our clan.

I have 4 sisters that I am very close to, we keep in touch and I wold trust them with my children, I have 2 brothers that are the very best and we have each others back. It is absolutely the best of all worlds. One of my sisters is an only child and even has a decent mother, so we all get to share that now, it's great!

Truly one of the healthiest things I have done for myself and for my children is to choose a supportive, loving, nurturing family for them to be a part of. I highly recommend it.

Good luck and keep your chin up.

It doesnt sound like your family gives u much of a reason to like them at all. Hopefully they'll grow out of their ignorance & come around to loving you how they should. And if not, then u just have to find the strength within yourself & close TRUE friends & live your own life happily. Don't fall into the trap of allowing your family to keep u down. Misery really does like company....

I agree with ron s. Live a good life, friends are the family that you get to choose, so find good ones and try to keep them for life. Find a good partner and keep them for life too. Create your own family. One that loves you.

I love my family very much. So sorry to hear that yours is not close. It is a wonderufl thing to know that you always have them to depend upon.

Maybe you should be the one in the family to initiate a change????

I'm sorry your family treats you that way. My family won't speak to me. Living a good life is the best revenge.
