If you are also keeping your current provider you need to take the phone to the provider to have it activated. However be warned...I switched carriers from Att&t to verizon, and verizon would not allow me to use my at&t phone for it was not a phone they supported on thier network. If your old phone and new phone bith have slim cards then you can most likely just switch the cards.

put your sim card in it, if that doesn't work go to your cell phone co. and tell them you want the phone activated with your current phone number.

Take it to your provider with proof of purchase. Be prepared to pay a handsome fee...They don't like it.
