* I am from NJ*

Hi I went to the dealership yesterday in the market for a nice 4 door "Family Car", After 6 in a half hours at the dealership with 2 children under the age of 5..I was told the only car that I was going to be able to leave with was a 2004 Mustang..due to so credit issues. I had asked the dealer when I was there if the tinted windows were illegal..They told me No, not at all...sure enough when I got home my neighbor who is a police officer told me that I will be pulled over every fifteen minutes because the tint on the car is illeagl. Am I able to take the car back and get something diffrent? Then I was told that it had a very good saftey rating the officer also told me that was not true. Any Ideas..I want to take it back and soon as my husband gets home from work. It will be less than 24 hours that I have had it. Is there anything the dealership or I can do?

Thanks in advance.

tint is not a reason to return a car. just remove it.

returning a car due to lack of facts on that car...is your fault, not the dealers.

always do you homework first.....for a car is the 2nd most important item you will buy in your life...home is first.

I don't think you will be able to hold the salesman responsible for telling you incorrect information. Unless you got it in writing it will be impossible to prove, and may not be illegal anyway.

The first thing you should do it read your lease agreement, or get someone more knowledgable to read it for you. If you are lucky, there may be an opt out period.

Here is something else to consider, most lease agreements state that you cannot make significant changes to the car. If you remove the tint you may violate your lease agreement. Don't remove the tint until you KNOW what your agreement says. If you remove the tint you may have to pay penalties or lose the car and any money you have already paid. On the plus side, if the agreement says you cannot remove the tint, and the tint is indeed illegal, that is good grounds to get the lease cancelled.

If your state has that certain law where you can return it then you definitely can. Check with your state on the exact procedure. I will list the California procedure. In California when a person buys a used car they have the option of returning the car within two or three days (I don't remember the exact time or mileage allowed). However before this can happen the buyer has to sign a contract with the seller where the buyer DOES NOT refuse the cooling down period option. This means of course that the seller charges a bit more for the option to be available. If all of the above is followed then the buyer can return the car to the seller and get the full refund minus the cooling down period amount within the time and mileage requirements.

You were lied to by the dealer about the tinting and safety rating. Yes you can take it back, raise a little hell with them, get out of the contract, a 2004 mustang is nothing but trouble anyway.

I believe you have 24 to 48 hours after signing a contract to change your mind. You never know the dealership may even remove the tinting if you request it.

Most of the time you have 72 hours to trade in a car if you are not happy with it. If I were you I'd take it back as soon as possible just in case you don't have the luxury of waiting this long

If it was part of the factory package take the car back and make them change to a light color. If it was by your request to have it done and you picked the tint too dark. it is up to you to correct the prblem.

no - you cannot. you just have to take the tint off or just keep it on and keep getting tickets for it.
