Every year scouts go thru tapes and look for weaknesses. Pujols has had the same batting stance since forever. Why hasnt they figure out his weak spot ?? He doesnt K, he hits for AVG, power and clutch. What is failing them?

he's a big guy who covers a lot of the plate. so he can reach easily and hit the outside pitch.

he does have one glaring weakness-he can't hit the low stuff and most of his k's come from that.

the real quesiton is when are teams gonna start giving him the barry bonds treatment and start intentionaly walking the guy already.

Albert Pujols is always learning. That is how he has become the best all around player in the game today. While scouts go through tapes, so does Pujols. He studies his game probably more than scouts do. He has not had the same stance since 2001. He has had the same form, but throughout the season he changes it slightly. His wife told him to change how he holds the bat, and guess what, he broke out of a mini-slump.

He always tries to better himself as a player. To some it may be greedy, but he wants to be the best that has ever played the game. Since moving to first-base he has become one of the best defensive first baseman in the game.

You could strike him out one at bat, and then that's all you have. When he has a look at what you have one time around he already has you figured out and then WHAM it's gone.

Look at game 5 of the 2005 NLCS in Houston. Brad Lidge has some of the most dominating stuff for a closer, and there was one pitch that was not great. To most that pitch would have made an out or someone wouldn't have done anything with it. But with Albert that pitch was taken over the train in left.

And to think what would have happened had Bobby Bonilla not gotten hurt at the end of spring training in 2001 that left the last outfield spot open for Pujols?

Nothing. Albert Pujols is the new generation of players. For anyone that think that Pujols is on steroids... that must be one hell of some sort of steroids because nobody can hit like this guy. Not many people know this but, AP was passed on 16 times before actually being taken in his first year in the draft. A D-Rays scout actually said we have to take this guy when nobody knew about Albert Pujols. And guess what they said. No. Now that scout is with the Brewers because he couldn't stand the D-Rays stupid move. But, Pujols decided to go back into the draft for next season and was take in the 13th round by the Cards next season. Think about it, everyone had 29 chances to take the soon to be best-player-in-baseball.

Pujols is a complete hitter that is why. He has great plate coverage. Hits with power to all fields and doesn't swing at bad pitches. There is no slowing Pujols down.

Everything said in the answers before me are true. They are all contributing factors. But one not mentioned may be the real key. He does have the great eye and doesn't swing at bad pitches, but he also doesn't swing strikes that are not good hitters pitches, early in the count, just because it's a strike. This also strongly contributes to his being the best 2 strike hitter in the game.

You kinda answered your question in your question. He can hit any type of pitch, can swing inside-out, high, low, doesn't matter! In my opinion, as long as he stays healthy, he will go down as the best hitter to ever play the game with his diverse ability to become any type of a hitter that is needed at any point in time in a game.
