In reading and watching celeb interviews, why can they not keep their comments straight?

I remember reading a few Evangeline Lilly interviews not long ago and her answers to the same questions changed dramatically with each interview as if she couldn't remember anything from one set to the next. I've also noticed that with many others. Is there a particular reason why they do this? If anything, it makes them look very unintelligent when they do.

Some people don't take them seriously. Generally they only do them under contract or they are looking for work.
