Clearwater beach isn't bad. The sand is great. Very touristy type of feel. It will be crowded if the weather is nice. On down the road are some decent beaches in the St Petersburg area. Treasure Island is one that comes immediately to mind. Bradenton has Coquina Beach, which is a nice beach without the touristy feel.
