The cabling you are using is probably 10BaseT... the range by itself is 100 meters... your cable will be fine... you will need to have a crossover cable though... which you can google a "crossover cable pinout" to rearrange them... or you can go to your best buy store and buy them if you dont wanna rearrange the pinout.

I suppose that you are using a cross over cable that is the receiver and transmitter of the line should be changed and once. Since all the lan cable are cat 5 cable there is no problem if you connect any two pc in the range of less than 100 meters.

Crossover at a minimum, but at 20 Meters you will lose signal strength; A Switch or better a Hub, will help with Signal Strength. It depends on what Else you have in the Area.

If you don't have a switch or hub or something, I think you'll need a crossover cable.
