Sometimes that's all I do spend on a family of 4. I stopped working over a year ago, and to cut back on $100 weekly grocery bills, I now plan a weekly menu and only buy what I don't have for the recipes. Just because you're out of spaghetti sauce doesn't mean you need to buy it. Only buy it if you will use it that week. So start off with what you do have in your fridge, freezer and pantry. You'll be surprised at what you can make with what you already have.

I would consider buying off brand products. Like for instance if you have a Aldi's nearby you can do bundles of savings there. Cut coupons or print them off line. I would consider buying Jambylia which is by zatarans a whole meal for next to nothing. Maybe some chicken instead of using sausage. That works. Also Spaghetti is cheap. Meatloaf is another idea. Make stuff that is simple that only requires little ingrediance and then spice it up yourself as you wish. There are several ways to get food with little money. Just shop cheap and look at the prices.

Make a list, break your list down to the number of days you plan to eat on your 35$, then break that down to how many meals you will have, and how much you can spend on each meal , you can put more of your daily budget towards your main meal, you can get away with spending $5.00 on breakfast for the week if you buy a box of cereal & milk, $5.00 for the week if you buy a loaf of bread, and cold cuts for sandwiches,
which leaves you, $5.00 a night for dinners, or you can make two or three larger dinners, like soup, and freeze the left overs, to strech out your dinner options, these are just examples,
trust me I have a 5 person family, and have had to make meals for the week on less,
The most important thing, is to write a list, and stick to it,next to each item, write the rounded cost estimate, like say :
hot dogs $2.00
Buns $1.00
ect.
then tally it up so you know exatly what you are spending
Then go by your list exactly, when you get to the super market.
You don't want to get to the register , and have to put stuff back.
Good Luck!

Start with pasta.(Noodles, spaghetti and such) You can buy a fair amount for a little money
Add day old bread and rolls
Add sauce to the pasta and a bit of meat.
Generic soup will also fill you up and is affordable
And...this is most important..pick up a dessert at the Entmanns or Hostess thrift shop. It will be affordable and end the meals with a smile.

Rice, pasta, ground beef, boxed cereal, milk, and canned goods. Check all the ads for good sales on shelf stable foods like boxed meals and soups.

Next time you get a little extra money buy some extra shelf stable foods, like boxed meals and canned soup. Stuff that won't go bad for a long while. Then next time this happens you will be a step ahead.

You can get generic "great value" brand boxes of Hamburger and tuna helper for $.77 each at walmart, then get some cans of tuna and the tubes of hamburgermeat and some fruits, frozen veggies or maybe some making for fluffernutters. This will see you through with money to spare for emergencies or gas or whatever, I've done these meals on $15.00 for a week!

Top ramen is extremely affordable. Rice is good if you like it. You can get a big bag for next to nothing. Frozen chicken would go well with rice. Canned vegetables are reasonably c cheap too. If you have kids Mac and Cheese is a treat, throwing cut up hot dogs into it is even better. Hope your shopping turns out well. Good luck.

Macaroni & cheese, oatmeal, rice, onion, green pepper, broccoli, hamburger, chicken, lettuce, carrots, spaghetti sauce & pasta, fresh fruit, soup.

With all that you can divide the hamburger in half and stir some in the mac & cheese, use the other half to make spaghetti or tocco salad. Cut the chicken in half and use in a chicken strip salad, use the veggies with the rice & rest of chicken to make stir fry. Oatmeal for breakfast, fruit & soup for lunch and that will get you through 4 days anyway!
