Because it is human nature to feel superior to others, and this is just one manifestation of that part of our nature. Many people don't fight this urge, so they say that their country, race, religion, etc. is somehow better than others. It's all in our heads, really, and it's sad.

The only reason I can truly think of is that they are used to the custom of one country and are unsure of another so it is customary to think one is better than another. I would love to travel to other country's but due to my being brought up in America I will always feel it is better here. Why because I am familiar with life here. No other reason in particular.

Because the United States is one of the few countries whose people are truly free and prosperous, plus the U.S. is by far the most benevolent country in the history of the earth.
We give billions of dollars in aid even to countries who resent our prosperity. We were the first country to outlaw slavery. We actually helped rebuild the countries we damaged after they attacked us in previous wars.
The United States is by far the greatest country ever to exist.

Generally people operate on the idea that what is familiar to them is right and good. If one has never gone more than 25 miles from one's place of nativity the area of familiarity is very small.

They simply do no matter how and there is no way to change that... :-( That is true we are all humans but some people think others are not or below them. Somewhat to do with racism.

I agree with you. Why do people sterotype countries and base the whole country on how one person behaves or what some people do. "We do not see things as they are, but as we are".

Yes, I perfectly agree with you; however, it is also in human nature to always hope for better, to always see the grass greener on the other side....to always want what we don't have...
