Here you go, check this out and you'll find out Hartz is NOT a good product!!! www.hartzvictims.org I used the flea drops one time on a female Doberman and she had a very serious reaction. Very lethargic and it even affected her kidneys, lost control of her bladder and fell down the stairs. Thank goodness I took her to the vet immediately, returned home and washed it off. She ended up being just fine. I wonder if I were like some people and say I couldn't afford to go to the vet?? Would she have died? NEVER will I purchase anything from this company again.!!!!

The answer to your first question is NO. Products for animals are like everything else in this world. You get what you pay for. That does not necessarily mean you must buy the most expensive but do some comparisons. If you can't get the info you want from the label, call a few vets or breeders and ask them their opinions of a specific type of product. Incidentally, now that I have bad mouthed Hartz, I must add that I doubt that there are dangerous chemicals in their rawhide bones. Ultimately their use would not constitute good merchandising practices.

Avoid hartz all together. Any product, any time. Their flea/tick medication has been known to seriously harm animals (and sometimes be fatal). I bought a cage and some tubes made by hartz for my hamster, it was the cheapest piece of crap I'd ever seen, nothing stayed together, nothing fit properly, I ended up returning it the next day.
Hartz shouldn't even be in business anymore. They dont care one bit about animals, all they care about is money money money. It's sad, really. I'm not sure about the rawhide products but for the health of your animals, I would avoid them, too.
(I have a feeling that the person who said theyre a wonderful company has either never gotten anything from them, or is employed by them)

I have had animals all my life and I would never use Hartz products.I work at a farm store that carries animal care products.I have run into so many customers looking for something better because they have used Harts and alot of times it has had no affect or a bad affect on pets.Go to a pet store for your products. You may spend a few dollars more on your pet but its better than hurting your pet.I have found that rawhide is not a very good treat to give a dog. They can get stuck in their system.Ive seen an xray of a 6 inch ball of rawhide in a dog it had to be surgicaly removed. No good! There are better things to give to your pet.Ask your vet for suggestions.

I've had, and heard, nothing but bad experiences with Hartz. My mom's cat almost died from using their products, and her mini-schnauzer death was most likely caused from tainted rawhides. Like another poster said, you get what you pay for. Inferior quality equals a lower price 99% of the time. I get my dog's rawhides at Petsmart, and they are made in the USA.

You should avoid any rawhide not stamped 'made in the USA' as standards for removing the chemicals from the rawhide range from low to non-existant depending on the country that the hide comes from. There are plenty of brands that do have the stamp so there's no need to choose one that doesn't say where it's from.

Hartz has had some issues in the past - I personally would NEVER use anything from them (except maybe stuffed toys). The issues I have heard about have been with their shampoos and flea products - being too strong and having the animal become very sick and/or dying. I personally know of a Yorkie that died after the owner used a too strong flea product. I have heard of it killing cats too - but most of the problems I have seen with cats has been hair loss.

No, it isn't. My vet warned us not to give our dogs rawhide until they were 6 months old, and to only buy American rawhide (as in made in america, not the brand). I generally get mine at Anderson's. Good luck. Don't buy Hartz.

I don't know about their raw hides, but I do know that their flea products are ineffective and dangerous. Especially to cats. I'd stay away from any Hartz brand!!!

I wouldn't buy any HARTZ products. They are cheaply made and poor quality. Instead, I would buy from your local vet clinic, feed store, or farm supply store.
