I am currently connected to a router in a shared house but don't want other computers to be able to access mine or any files on my PC.
How can I do this? Cheers

Don't enable print of file sharing, and if you are using a windows NT based OS (NT, 2000, XP, Vista), they'll have to authenticate before they have access. Don't share your user ids or passwords.

Alternatively, if you have access to the router, you may be able to set up something so that your PC's IP is inaccessible by the others.

they wont be able to access your files unless you turn on file and printer sharing, accessable in list at control panel >> network, by default it is not enabled I beleive, and even if it is enabled, you would then have to specifically set folders to "sharable", so just connecting to a network will not allow pple access to ur files, and there is no way to be "unseen"

You could, and should install a firewall to keep unwanted people out of your computer.

A very good free firewall is Comodo Free Firewall.

This will also keep your computer from being invaded from the Internet.

put a limit on who has access to your computer, it is wise to have a firewall also.
