lol, I know this is a weird subject, but I am scared that I will. It's gonna smell up the room and be so embarrasing. I don't care what people say, when they say I won't care because I'll be in so much pain. I don't care, I will still be angry that my boyfriend, mom, nurses and doctor's will smell and see my poop!!! How can I avoid this?? Sounds trivial, but it's something I'm really weird about.

nurses actually want to see you poop in labor because that means you are pushing with the correct set of muscles.

It is embarrassing though, when i did i farted super loudly at the same time, stopped in the middle of pushing during a flipping contraction and said...."excuse me," before getting back to work.

I don't know where everyone is getting enemas at. They are NOT common practice anymore. Everyone poops. That is a fact. Not everyone poops while giving birth, but there is a very good chance you will, at least a little. But nurses will wipe it away before anyone even knows what happened. Trust me. No one will say you pooped, no one will be watching you poop, and it's probably not going to be a huge poop, just a little bit. The pressure from the birth will push out anything that is still in there, no matter what you do. So just relax and concentrate on pushing out that baby. If you poo, you won't even know. Good luck.

I discovered this issue during my 8th month and it scared the "crap" out me me as well! I became obsessed with it, even though my husband (a doctor) said that it was too trivial to even give a single thought to, because he said that the majority of women DO poop while pushing. The nurses just discretely wipe it away immediately. He also assured me that a vagina becomes SO distorted by the head that most men don't notice poop at all. While I was in labor at the hospital I went to the toilet to make sure I pushed out everything that I could before I was fully dialated. It was extremely painful to do that during contractions. But I managed to not poop during the pushing. However during my second pregnancy I became less concerned about modesty (motherhood WILL do that to you too). My husband told me later that he noticed I pooped, but it was the complete not-big-deal that he had originally told me it would be. No smell or even mention of it.
No one could convince me it wasn't a big deal during my first pregnancy, but I will tell you (with the wisdom of experience) it is not going to be a big deal to anyone in that room except you. Just know that MOST women poop, and most women will never know that they did.

I was scared too my first time in labor ( and before labor ) about pooping. I know you said you don't care what people say but.... TRUST ME pooping during delivery WILL be the last thing on your mind, it probably won't even be on your mind at that point. I have 2 kids, went through natural birth with the both of them and I didn't poop during it. Nurses are so used to women having a bowel movement during pushing, they just clean it up and continue. They don't even say anything. A couple of days after I had my first, I had totally forgot about how nervous I was about pooping during delivery, I asked my husband if I did. He just laughed and said no. Don't get yourself worked up about that, I did and it didn't even matter, honestly at that point I wouldn't have cared if I did LOL!!!! Congrats on your pregnancy and best wishes to you and your family.

I was just like you. I was so scared that this might happen while I was in labor. But it didn't, at least no one told me if it did. I didn't receive an enima (sp) before being induced. But your body pretty much shuts down normal bodily functions and concentrates on giving birth. But, even if you do 1) no one will tell you, 2) you won't know b/c of trying to push the baby out 3) the drs. and nurses are trained and see even worse stuff happen. This should be the least of your concerns.

well here is my story i never thought it was possible and normal to poop in delivery. i didn't eat before i gave birth and i didn't go either. but when it came time to push i remember pushing and wanting to go to the restroom. so my boyfriend was holding my leg and the nurse the other one.so then as i was pushing i started having a bowel movement god idid not even know i was i will just see the nurse just discreetly wipe and clean off the poop! but i was more concerned on having my baby more than what the nurse or my boyfriend thinks. but yeah after that i knew what i had done and i am embarrased to this date and it's been almost three years since that . so me and my husband never talked about it and guess what i am pregnant and i am going to talk to my doctor and see how can i avoid this!
well congrats and good luck!

Funny, earlier in my pregnancy that's what i was focused on too!! (so was my sister during her pregnancy.....and she pooped on the table!!!!) Now, i am almost 39 weeks pregnant, and i'm SO uncomfortable...it's hard to move, back aches, can't sleep b/c i'm always getting up to pee (and getting up is hard), etc. i would gladly poop all over the delivery room if it would get me to the delivery room faster!

Oh, and my sister said she didn't even notice that she pooped.....the only way she knew was that the nurse swooped in and took something off the table. Oh, and my mom is a labor and delivery nurse. She said that "it is no big deal". The nurses see it all the time and they take it away fast. Good luck!

It is pretty trivial because trust me YOU WON'T CARE. And I do not know who has heard about the enemas being used still because I know that most hospitals DO NOT administer enemas anymore. Mine didnt and its a pretty well known hospital in California.

This happened to me when I gave birth. It is common. It shows that you are pushing right because they tell you to push like you are having a bowel movement. So in alot of cases it going to happen

Your "boo boo" is not going to stink up the room. As soon as you do it the doctor takes a blue cloth that has been under you and gathers it as it is exiting and takes it away immediatly. They also block it from view. Only the doctor will see it for a split second and maybe your boyfriend will catch a quick glance. It doesnt just lay there. They do not want a chance of infection so it it taken away so quick no one notices

I asked my boyfriend (now my husband) if he saw, and he said for a second and it didnt bother him. I wasnt embarrased even after childbirth. Childbirth is such an accomplishment and little things like this should not be remembered

LOL.. I have given birth 3 times and am awaiting my 4th and final baby. I may have pooped but have NEVER smelled a thing. The amniotic fluid has a scent and nobody minds it. If you are really worried about it you can talk with your doctor but they see and smell worse! I mean.. think of the nasty Lady's that come in that haven't showered in weeks and then they have to do a pelvic exam. A woman giving birth is a wonderful thing and nobody will worry about the sight or smell of a little fecal matter. Good luck

Maybe u will. Maybe u won't. It may be a little. It may be alot. Doesn't matter though. Wanna know why? Okay, I'll tell u. The birth of your child - let alone your first child, is an overwhelming & joyous experience. It will leave little or no room for worries of that kind. Trust me when I tell u that it is the most beautiful & exhilirating moment in a mother or father's life. You must be one of them women that only "poops" - lol when there is no one home. If this is true, I don't know how the hell u do it. Alls I know is that when u gotta go, damn it, u gotta go. Don't worry about that though. Just enjoy the moment of new life being born into this world.

It seems like a lot of people answering have no idea what they are talking about! Sorry, ya'll...

But, when I gave birth, I was scared of this too. And, OF COURSE, it happened. The nurse had a pad underneath and would wipe the area anytime I pushed and some "pooh" came out. My husband said it didnt smell... and he just laughed about it.

I was never offered anything to drink, or anema.... or whatever else they have.

Just refrain from eating bigger meals if you know you are in labor. I hear it really helps when it comes to this.

Good luck! And don't worry!
