It might cost a lot at first, but think about it, you fail a drug test, you need to become clean before collecting again!! I have no sympathy for users... it was your choice to start doing drugs, not mine... why should I have to pay for it...
figures all the drug lovin hippies hate this idea...
and ps I PASSED MY DRUG TEST!!! without cheating

Absolutely.
If you receive assistance of any kind you should have to pass a drug test.
Think about public housing- when was the last time you drove past the projects.
What did you see? Here what we see are people standing outside selling dope instead of working.
That my friends are our tax dollars hard at work keeping the neighborhood high.
If you can afford to be high- you sure as heck don't need any assistance. Imagine what they could have if they weren't spending their money (our money) on dope.
EDIT: A workers comp drug panel costs $35.00. That is the same drug panel used for preemployment screening and DOT licensing. If your average welfare recipient receiving assistance is sucking the taxpayer dry for around $1500.00 a month- that $35.00 would be very well spent. Considering what a drug habit costs, not only financially but the toll exacted on children raised in households where drugs are abused,
I have to wonder what kind of thought pattern someone would be following to determine that drug use among public assistance recipients is not our ( as taxpayers) problem.

I partially agree with you. If you are on welfare you should have to do the following:
1) Take a drug test
2) Go on some sort of birth control like an IUD or something that you cannot forget to take.
3) Have to show up at the county office every morning, put on a orange or pink county vest and do work for the county to earn your money in the morning and then go to job training or high school classes in the afternoon to get some type of degree or advanced education. Don't worry liberals, the county will provide day care
I would also put a 5 to 7 year lifetime limit on welfare. If you cannot figure it out in that time, you are a hopeless cause.
EDIT:
I didn't want to seem too cold hearted. You can't throw ice cold water on the liberals to bring them to reality, might cause a heart attack!

because then they could could end doing drugs - what should be the point (and thrilling) of being on welfare then? heavily, the completed aspect of welfare is a secure practices information superhighway when you won't be able to help their households. Having a drug difficulty doesn't appear like a strong reason to be on welfare (a minimum of no longer lengthy time period). perchance in the journey that they were required to get examined, flow to medical care and stay sparkling, they could finally end up no longer wanting it. As for the those with no drug difficulty who extremely favor welfare (it really is quite hard to get lately), they could no longer have a difficulty with sorting out, because it ought to help individuals.

drug testing costs money, but how about we do it for all welfare? Big business and social welfare alike. Anyone who wants a tax break has to get a drug test? BTW, there is a 5 year lifetime cap (non consecutive) on welfare, and it must be paid back. rich people decided long ago that drug addiction and alcoholism were DISEASES Betty Ford), and therefore can't discriminate against those afflicted. Not saying I agree, but there you have it

Not everyone who works has to take a drug test. If you are willing to pay the huge tax increase that would be required for such a policy, fine. Somehow, though, I think you are one of those ignorant people who can't think through the consequences of an idea, and who vote only for politicians who say they will cut taxes. If every politician who made that promise and got elected had done it, we would not have any taxes - and no police, fire, road repairs, telephones, cable tv, zoning or any other rules. Your house would be sold long ago to someone who bribed the town to be allowed to take your house by eminent domain.
Keep thinking up those original ideas!

It is a very good idea. But will it save the tax payers money by weeding out drug users or cost tax payers more having to pay for all those drug tests?

if people want to do drugs that's their business so long as they don't break any laws (well.. other than the ones against them taking those drugs lol) in my opinion... I don't give a crap what they do to themselves... but at the same time I have no problem in making sure the government isn't paying for that habit... also.. I don't think they should be jailed if found to be on drugs... they should try other methods and programs first.

Why would they have to take a drug test? The government has enough communism already. Not all jobs require drug testing i all depends what field you are going in. Are you on drugs and that is why you are so hostile? People on welfare dont always choose to be on it. People on welfare cant afford drugs as it is. They can barely get by.

Great idea! Then taxpayers will have to pay for drug treatment before having to pay for the welfare anyway. Their children would go hungry in the meantime. I'm glad you thought all of this out.
