my daughter is 6 1/2 months, she can sit up on her own, can get on her hands and knees and rock, and she even can be on her hands and knees and sit up. She goes backwards but isn't actually crawling yet. Should I be concerned, or is this normal, she seems to just want to get around by sitting and then getting back on her hands and knees and rotating her butt so she sits in a different area.

At 6 1/2 months, my daughter was doing the same thing!!! She is now 8 mos and just starting actually crawling about 2 weeks ago. I don't think you should be worried at all. Like the others say, every baby develops at their own rate. She will just have to figure it out on her own. Once she figures it out, she will be moving like crazy! Congrats and good luck,

Every single child is different, if she is an only child, she might be later than "average" (by the way, average is from 5 months to 13 months) just because she has noone to keep up with. My first didn't crawl unitl, oh I think 9-10 months. Then he turned right around and walked. My youngest started crawling pretty early, especially for a boy, but he has 2 older brothers that he wanted to keep up with. All of my children did the rocking thing, it was so cute, and rotating around is good too. Don't push her, just set some of her favorite toys just out of her reach and encourage her, just don't let her get discouraged or frusterated at not being able to reach the toy. I know a couple babies that are 7 months and not crawling right now. Just make sure she gets lots of floor time, and enjoy her not beign able to get into everything, lol. It won't last long.

It sounds like you daughter is on track developmentally. There isn't really a time frame for crawling in a child's development. Sometimes they crawl at 6 months, some not until 9 or 10 months, and others never crawl, they just go straight to walking. The important thing is she is finding her own way to get around, and that shows everything is likely ok.

My son started crawling at 5 months old however his cousin just started and she is 9 months. Your baby will start soon but dont worry some babys never ever really crawl they may even start to walk before hand good luck.

my son was a late crawler, he turned nine months yesterday (15th) and just started crawling about a week and a half ago. I would say he did the rocking thing for about three or four weeks before he started crawling so I would say that soon your baby will be crawling. When she does start, you won't be able to keep her in one room let alone one spot. My son is all over the place now. It is great fun, best of luck to you, and I am sure she will be fine.

She may never crawl. Many babies don't. Usually, though, her behavior means that she's getting ready to be mobile.

My little niece never crawled on her hands and knees--she did the military crawl, then got up on one of her push toys and started walking and has just now started on her first steps.

Don't worry about it--babies do fine with whatever they do.

If she's on her hands and knees rocking back and forth then she's getting ready to crawl. Every baby develops at their own rate.

Don't be concerned. It sounds to me like she is doing great! She will be crawling anytime or she may be one of those babies who decides to skip crawling and just start walking. All babies go at their own pace so just relax and be patient and she will get there when she is ready. Good luck.
