An active labour, this means plenty of walking around during labour and not lying flat on your back. Moving around helps the contractions and speeds things up. Use the birthing ball too and if you ask your midwife when you start going to antenatal classes about effective birthing positions she should be able to give you plenty of good ones, being upright or on your knees leaning over the back of the bed or the side of a pool is really good as you are not fighting gravity. For the burning sensation during pushing use the birthing pool if its available and you dont ache as much afterwards either. I used gas and air and the birthing pool with my little girl, I was only pushing for 17mins!

Good luck!

If you want to have an easier and faster delivery, stay off of your rear end. No sitting, no lying down. (No, you do NOT have to be monitored. That's for the hospital, not for you or your baby. If you're healthy, it's completely unnecessary.) Walk, squat, kneel, rock, balance on a birthing ball. Slow dance with your husband. (No, I'm not kidding. Slow dance and kiss. The motion and the hormonal reaction to the kissing are both beneficial.) Stay relaxed, keep your jaw open and relaxed (the state of your jaw mirrors the state of your cervix and pelvis) keep your sounds low and and visualize what's happening -- your uterus is contracting in waves, starting at the top and squeezing downward (like squeezing toothpaste out of the tube) to press baby down to engage your cervix which will respond by thinning and opening to let baby out. Imagine that process and keep moving.

Keep walking around it helps bring the labour on.
When u start having contractions get in to a hot bath to bring your labour full on.It may hurt when u get out but trust me ur labour will be over quicker if u do this.It helps relax ur muscles and makes it easier to give birth.
I was only having a few contractions when i got into a hot bath to get clean for the hospital, after two minutes i had to get out i had suddenly gone into full blown labour.
But im glad though as i wasnt in labour for hours it was about 3-4 in total and it was my first.
Trust me try it .IT WILL WORK and u wont be in pain for longer than nessisary

exercise to strenghten the pelvic floor muscles, but it's important to check with your midwife it's safe for you to do so. Apart from that, installing a zip on your under carriage! Sorry, but if there was a way then we would all do it wouldn't we? It's guna hurt, but you can do it, just let your body and instincts take over, as women we are built to deliver children, it's natural.

You should keep active. If its your first baby congrats!! but the likeliest labour for a first child is longer because you havent stretched (down there) before. Also squating can help. Good Luck

Making sure you listen to the midwife's instructions, try to relax (though not easy in that situation), breathe and don't push too soon. Go to the birthing classes with your partner, they really help.

I was told to drink rasberry leaf tea in the few months of pregnancy (not before as it has been linked with miscarriage) I had my baby quickly and without medication. Not sure if it had anything to do with it, but it can't hurt to try! GOOD LUCK!!!!
