Along the inside of the frame under the truck, on the drivers side.

in my experiences the fuel filter is under the hood, looks like a fist size cylinder shaped fixture with three hoses going into it. NOT even close to the fuel tank. Should be really easy to replace untils the hose clamps are rusty.

if you look under the vehicle right underneath where the drivers door is it is in front of the gas tank held on with a bracket on the frame, kind of hard to get at everything to change it.

i WORK AT A CHEVY DEALER, I RAN A 2003 4X4 IT LOOKS LIKE IS RIGHT UNDER THE C PILLAR UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE LEFT DOOR IT IS MOUNTED SIDEWAYS ON THE TANK RIGHT NEXT TO A FRAME CROSSMEMBER, BUT I WAS ALSO TOLD SOME YEARSW DID NOT COME WITH IT
