OK I asked this question in Religion and was shocked to discover that board was rather selfish in their answers so I'm trying in Philosophy. Bhuddist asked this question but got really horrible answers so I'm going to try again and see if I can get some better answers. Religious beliefs set aside...

let us say a solid 24 hours : What Most Novel things would you think you'd do, or at least, try to accomplish, in that 24 hours? Not so much an "if you had 24 hrs to live" cause you'd do more selfish things like live it up then--but inspirational novel things that you would like to think you'd do. what do you care about? what would you really put 24 hrs worth of time and effort into?

Please don't make your answer I would waste it doing what I do every other day. The idea is to do something that would inspire others, that would benefit someone other than yourself. Usually people think I always wish I did more, but I don't b/c stuff comes up, bills to pay, work exhausts me, etc--but you have 24 hours without the mundane of daily life. what would you do?

oops sorry guys. I didn't mean to make it sound like you had 24 hours to LIVE. You aren't dying. I meant to get inspirational not morbid. Sorry if that was missed!

Perhaps I'd want to do things that I never got around to doing, like if I always wanted to travel somewhere then this would be the perfect time. One could face all of their fears in 24 hours, nothing to be afraid of anymore right? Maybe if I was in love, I'd just want to spend the time being close with that person. If I was a writer maybe I'd want to write the best short story I could come up with, maybe even on this subject. Maybe I'd want to tie up any loose ends with the people I care about. I could give away all of my possessions. I think 24 hours is not enough time to get all the things done that you'd want to. Maybe if someone found out they had a terminal disease, and the doc gave them about a month...that might be enough time to get most things done.

Interesting question, our answers could change from day to day, and mood to mood. I'd like to hear your answer to this question.

First off, 24 hours isn't enough time to actually do or even try to do anything which would or could be truly inspirational. Anything which has great value takes time to grow and prosper..... Typically far more than 24 hours. Second, you don't mention in your conditions whether or not we'd have unlimited or otherwise means available......

With only 24 hours and basic means available.

I'd try to contact as many people as possible which I felt contributed in some way my life being or becoming better with them as part of it than it would have been without them and say both thank you and good bye.

I think I understand what you mean. Let me first say that I don't practice any religion, so that angle of trying to inspire others is out the window. If I had 24 hours to inspire those around me, no matter what the cause, it would have to be a memorable event, something I don't usually do, something to stick with them and make them say "WOW" I can't believe she did that, maybe there's a reason she's so worked up about it. So, a rally, a camp-out, a sit-in, a walk-a-thon, etc.

How about those of us that use each of our days to the fullest? Are we wasting our days doing what we always do? Can't every day life be an inspiration to others depending on how it's lived? Who are you to say that people can't live everyday lives that does help others?

To show love and care for the people and the world around you is not a one time 24 hour thing, it's a continuous pleasurable job that never ends.

24 hrs, is not enough for anything. For more than 2000 years humanists and other philosophers had tried to come up with a solution to humanity's problems, on my estimate it might take at least another 10.000 years until we can have a better society. Unless we'll blow-it all up before that.

Well I don't see how that would be different from any other day. "Carpe diem!" Every day is a new Novel 24 hours that we get to live once and never get back. On any given day we can choose to make different choices and do different things. Every 24 hours that I spend happy, doing what I think is right, loving the people I care about, and coming closer to achieving my long term goals is a day well spent.

It's pretty difficult not to be selfish in answering this question, but here goes. I guess I would look for someone more unfortunate than myself (maybe someone hospitalized, or on death's bed). I would want them to know that no matter how bleak a situation may seem, that there's always hope.

I would make sure that the people in my life know how very much I love them. And I would make peace with and try to heal any strained relationships.

Um, I answered on the other one, and I really want to go to Africa to help in some way. I would also want to do the things I said on the other answer.
