"RUNDLL32.EXE-3B866543.pf is invalid or corrupt and cannot be read, please run CHKDSK utility"

I have just got this error message after logging into my PC after a reboot due to installing a Windows Media Player Update. How do I fix this? I cannot run CHKDSK, for some reason my computer screws up after running it (freezing on 6% and displaying a distorted screen).

I have had a similar error before and just copied the file from another PC and pasted it into the directory on my PC which fixed it. But with this one I looked in the directory on another PC and could not find it?!?!?

Any explainations, help etc. would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance!

Try Start -> Run and type

sfc /scannow (you may be prompted for the Windows CD)

You could also use the System Restore tool to go back to an earlier point just before the update was installed.

Good luck.

Hello,
It sounds as if your computer is hijacked and probably is loaded with malware etc. The registry is corrupted as you can not utilize the OS commands. Try to boot up in safe mode, command prompt only and do a chkdsk /f. I don't know what software your using but now a days things slip through anyway regardless. Also, they have become so sophisticated that they shut down any firewalls, virus software etc. Believe it or not one can be in ones computer for 6 years and not know it! I suggest you go to pcpitstop and do a scan and then there are two free utilities; spybot search and destroy, adaware, and javas helper protector SpywareGuard. All of which can be downloaded from www.download.com. Unfortunately not one piece of software is adequate and it is not a good idea to run them at the same time. Also, the programs I listed can be used in Safe Mode and should. You can also go to hijackthis page and you can get help there too and they will tell you the same thing I did and also to submit a report to them. Yes, it's time consuming but we don't have a choice do we? Good Luck.!!!
