Out of all the video games you have played, which one has the best storyline? My choice is "Final Fantasy X." Please don't tell me what OTHERS have said the best is, but what YOU think the best is.

Well, I'm definitely a Final Fantasy fan, though I think 7 was the best as far as game play and storytelling, but I wouldn't choose Final Fantasy as the most thought-provoking. I would chose a game by the same company though, Vagrant Story. While the actual game play and storytelling were just good, not excellent, the storyline in general was without a doubt the most thought provoking for me.

the absolute best, thought provoking storyline? Illusion of Gaia. below is a copy/paste on the plotline of the game, from wikipedia, listed in my source area

"""Illusion of Gaia is set in a partially historical but mostly fantasy-based version of Earth. The game contains several real-world sites, such as Incan ruins, the Nazca lines, Angkor Wat, the Great Wall of China, and Egyptian pyramids. Each of these ruins hold a piece to the final puzzle, unveiled at the top of the infamous Tower of Babel.

It is the age of exploration (a period roughly corresponding to the 16th century; Christopher Columbus is mentioned at least once), and explorers have begun scouring the world in search of ancient ruins and the lost treasures and secrets within. Many return with nothing, and some are simply never seen again. Will, the protagonist of the game, is a survivor of one such ill-fated expedition. He accompanied his father, a famed explorer, on a sea journey to uncover the secrets of the Tower of Babel, but the explorers met with a mysterious disaster. Somehow Will managed to make it back to his home town, but he doesn't remember how.

When the game begins, Will stumbles into a "Dark Space," where he meets a strange being called "Gaia". Gaia tells Will that he must leave his home and save the world from a coming evil. A comet is approaching, and it will bring ill fortune to the world. As he travels, Will gains the ability to change into other forms, each with special powers: Freedan, a dark knight, and Shadow, a solid form of energy."""

I agree with everyone as well, all Final Fantasy games have great stories, but i think another overlooked Squaresoft game takes the crown as really thought provoking, Xenogears for the original Playstation

zelda games have simple, steady, and predictable storylines and also seem pretty short.
the exception, majoras mask (as of what i played) basically go through collecting items and going to beat ganon or ganondorf. though baten katos: eternal wings and the lost ocean has a long drawn out storyline with a different way to play. you get multiple characters and you go for a ride against the empire to save the world against an evil god, so baten kaitos is definitly my #1 choice.

I think FFX has a great story, too. I also think that Chrono Cross (although somewhat dated) has a great story line. The animation is great for its time (you wouldn't be able to tell how old it is) and the story is quite a twister!
