As a former performer in a "Dark Side of the Moon" tribute band and as the dubbed "Syd Barrett" of the group, I personally think that their work right after Syd left is their best stuff. Such albums from that time would be "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "Relics".

But "Piper At the Gates of Dawn" was excellent in its own regards. I will admit that before Syd broke down he was a great musician and could really come up with some good stuff. But with David they came up with almost all of their hits that we know today.

Of course Syd also inspired a lot of their later music such as "Brain Damage" from Dark Side of the Moon and also the "Crazy Diamond" series from Wish You Were Here (the album). There's also a lot more references to Syd and his works in their work with Dave Gilmour but they're not as significant as these are. They retained some of the elements of "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" into their later works such as some stuff on "A Saucerful of Secrets" but they also developed their own post-Syd sound and style after that as well.

under no circumstances been keen on David Gilmour's solo artwork, so no sought after music to speak of...yet i love Syd Barrett's stuff, sought after songs being "Terrapin" and "No guy's Land" off of the Madcap Laughs.

I like both. But I favor the later stuff because I can relate more to the lyrics.
