Surround yourself with healthy people. Do things that interest you; hobbies, sports, acitivities. Think of things that make you happy..friends, family, partner. Try not to take life so seriously. I know the feeling too, sometimes my mind wanders when I am working..and that is the worse ever! Maybe pop in a funny movie or take a bath that relaxes you!

With books. There are so many kinds of books and you should find one that interests You!! Some book you know you will finish. Remember to read a page in the bookstore to see if you enjoy the style of the writer before you buy it just for the title or the author. Some new information that you love will divide those undesired thoughts in half and keep splitting them until your undesired thoughts have been replaced by the new information or a great story. Maybe a clever witty book would work. I would send you to the bookstore or the library right away!! If you can't find a genre that fits your taste, you aren't trying! There are simple books if it's hard for you to read. YES you CAN concentrate!! Start wiping and filling your brain right now!! (I never met a reader that didn't have a better mindset than most others) I come from a position where there were many people and many problems and I say READ YOUR TROUBLES AWAY!!

Engage your mind... Stay active both physically and mentally (and spiritually if you are that way). There is some truth to the idle hands thought... keep working towards what you want to be. Have a goal or a mission and get it. When you decide it is time to relax, do so without guilt. Someone above said surround yourself with healthy people... I totally agree.

There is a workbook I give my clients dealing with your automatic thoughts. It is not complicated to work through, and you should be able to buy one at Chapters or any major book store.
It's called "Mind Over Mood" by Greenberger and Padesky.
I would encourage you to take it chapter by chapter so that you are able to absorb the info and apply it.

The best thing you can ever do for yourself is feed your mind with the things that you want. So if you want to have good, healthy thoughts, think positively and hang around people who make you feel and think good. Best wishes.

Stop to think. When you restart, think healthy thoughts. How are you so sure of getting 'stupid' answers?
