For the past 2 months I've looked ,driven, and compaired many cars for purchase. Cars such as the Subaru Impreza, Toyota Matrix, Honda Civic, Ford Escape and Honda CR-V. The first car I looked at was a Mazda3 hatchback s Touring 2.3l. The car is at the top of it's class for Build quality, Performance, Standard options and reliability, safety, and price point.. Consumer reports highly recommends this car along with most all other car magazines and reports. My child hood friend that works for a TV show called "Motor Week" also told me that the Mazda is the best car out there right now for the money. After driving the Mazda I then drove the other cars mentioned. I went back and bought the Mazda 2 days later.I was impressed with everything about the car even how well it drives in the snow with the Traction control system and it also has a direct connect to hook up your i-pod . Go and test drive the cars your interested in ,drive different levels of the same model, take your time and ask your self which one fits me and my life style better. I have now owned mine for 7 days and I love it more than I ever thought I would, It's GREAT !

They aren't really in the same class. Why would you be considering those two cars? You might want to start by thinking about what you need out of a car and then see which type of car best suits your needs. then you can compare cars in that class and choose the best one.
IE, the CR-V would be in a class with the Rav-4 , the Ford Escape , the Kia Sorrento, etc. all of the so called "Cute Utes"
The MAzda 3 is in the same class as the Toyota Matrix, possibly the Yaris, the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Chevy Aveo and Kia Rio.
These are economy cars/
Do you need an economy car or a small SUV?

I just got a Mazda 3 this past weekend. It's very nice and it moves really well, with its 2.3 engine. It also has other cool features, go see one, you'll like it. Mine is charcoal gray with a small spoiler in the trunk.

Not really comparable, but I'd go with the Mazda. Great reliability, and while the CR-V might have it too, it's too new to know for sure.
