Driving to work in St Andrew France four of us in a car saw
a bolt of lightening that terminated in a ball of fire, I made the comment that hit a transformer to which the others said that's
a thousand feet in the air it lasted for five or six seconds
I contend it was a mini hydrogen fusion fire set off in nature
a bolt of lightening is hot enough to do it

I'm sorry I can't give you an interesting answer as I've never seen ball lightning, it would be an amazing event to witness.

Reports of ball lightning vary but in most cases the object is described as being circular and is often red, yellow, orange, blue or white in colour. Frequently it's described as hovering about one metre above the floor with many reports descrbing it as entering a building through a door or window only to exit a short time later through a different door or window.

One of the most reliable instances of ball lightning occured in the Golden Temple at Amritsar (India) and was witnessed by a great many people. Other instances with many witnesses include an occasion on a comercial jet plane where the lightning travelled down the aisle.

Ball lightning is something that's not well understood. There are some explanations but all have failings.

Yes.. and it was scary as hell....Rolled in one door , went right through the house and right out the back door....
